Having your sons circumcised in the UK

Postby Frecklover » Tue Oct 17, 2017 3:57 am

I understand that if both parents agree to it the NHS in Scotland will circumcise a baby boy without questions being asked as to reasons why. For the rest of the UK there have to be medical reasons (though specific religious/ cultural reasons may be considered in some areas). So should you not have religious or cultural reasons and you don't live in Scotland can anyone recommend how and where it would be possible to get a secular circumcision for a son in the UK without being judged for it?

Are congratulations in order my friend :P ?

I'd imagine that contacting the local muslim community would probably yield results. There also seems to be a few specialists who do adult circs. I'd imagine they'd be a helpful place to start as well.

The answer is easy.
Don't go to the NHS. I was down to have mine done through the NHS (this was 1994 and still possible), but circumstances meant I couldn't arrange it in the end ... luckily because...
you cannot control what type of style you get. Or, put an other way, the technique will be a dorsal slit then circular cut just behind the corona and all the mucosa trimmed to 2mm so that the circ looks neat and there is no mucosa showing.

The option I would do now (for myself or anyone) at a heartbeat is to go the London circumcision clinic. They are a dedicated clinic that do children and adults and they openly allow you to choose the resulkt, high, medium low, etc...

It's a no-brainer.
Pity I didn't find out soon enough :|

Although I have no idea if it would be covered by health insurance, this new mother in London found a mohel to do the job and seemed extremely pleased with the results. I don’t get the impression that she’s Jewish, but that doesn’t seem to have been a problem. Apparently the mohels are able to perform a circumcision even if it isn’t a bris. Even if it isn’t covered, it’s probably not a bad idea to go to the pros with this job.

There's nothing more pro than the circumcision clinic in the UK.
I wouldn't want a mohel near my son. And you can't choose the circ style. It just doesn't seem right. But that's a personal view of course. To each his own.

Yes, was thinking of specifically non-religious options, with the most flexibility with regards to techniques and styles.... ? And where parents won't be judged for making their choice to circumcise. The Circumcision Clinics in Luton and Leytonstone are run by Muslims?

Actually, mohels really know their stuff. I attended two Bris ceremonies because my ex wife was Jewish and we were invited to these things. I have to say I am extremely impressed by their skill, and the outcomes they achieved. They will be low circumcisions with intact frenulum, but the glans tended to be about 80% exposed afterwards, and as you may know, as guys grow up, it will kind of "wander" upwards later. If I could have had a mohel do mine, I would have done it.
Some people’s opinion one simply cannot change. Mine, for example.
